Well, you must’ve come across several apps asking for permission for location access, haven’t you? Now have a look at this;

  • Seems risky to give permission to a company like Jio! Well, look at the brighter side – if you are a Jio user they already have your location, which is what? 50% of all Internet users in India now!
  • Again Jio is reading your SMS and all your financial transactions. As notification means all the financial transactions, messages, emails. Also, notifications shouldn’t mean email, right?

Now a member questioned, Reading your SMS permission is I guess different from receiving notifications permission, the above seems to be the latter?

  • Another member responds, “I think it’s the same.” At least earlier both permissions used to be separate. Not clued in on the latest
  • The point is a telco already knows whatever you are afraid to give. Only telcos and banks have this kind of superpower. True. For this matter, no app should force us to give permission for any access on mobile.
  • A member mentions, “I am a Jio user for fiber connectivity and cable TV. Still it is asking. This started after IOS 14 update.” this means that IOS 14 is really driving app companies to work harder. Well, iOS 14 has made it harder for apps and permissions seeking more transparent for consumers.
