Technology has become a way of life! With some exciting discoveries and innovations technology is disrupting almost every sector. Slowly people are becoming more open to experimenting with new digital innovations as well. Recent one such being Payment Speaker.

Now, what exactly is this Payment Speaker?

  • It is a voice-activated POS speaker which confirms payment through voice instead of a confirmation SMS.
  • This is a simple sound box – use case in high traffic outlets where the server or cashier may not want to check his phone or an outlet like a petrol pump where the phone getting a notification is kept inside.
  • It has a sim card slot as well but there is no clarity on whether there will be a transaction history with the speaker.
  • It’s very popular in China and they are usually Alipay and Wepay. It works quite well and merchants don’t look at their phone to know if they have been paid.

How does this Payment Speaker work?

  • The speaker or the soundbox is linked by Bluetooth to the merchant’s phone. It’s quite low-tech which is why it works!
  • It has 4G connectivity and facilitates online payments on behalf of the retailer. It also has a QR code to scan to make the payment.
  • When the customer makes the payment, the merchant is being alerted about the transaction being completed. Thus, it facilitates app-less transactions.
  • Well, it is not available for free but at a nominal charge of approx Rs. 650/- as mentioned by a member who inquired about the same from a nearby merchant.
