Sensors above train seats could bring an end to standing in the aisles as passengers are alerted to empty and unfilled reserved seats on mobile app

New technology will allow passengers to locate seats next to spare spaces on trains thanks to sensors being installed.

The London North Eastern Railway (LNER) will also release ‘reserved’ seats whose passengers have not turned up.

The roll-out follows Labour leader’s Jeremy Corbyn’s 2016 row with Virgin train bosses after he claimed to be unable to find a seat due to the amount of people on board.
