The lenses feature motion sensors, which means that wearers could control devices with their eye movements and potentially give commands to their devices remotely when blinking or using their peripheral vision.

The contact lenses could also beam photos and videos directly into a wearers eyes.

The device could be intended as a direct replacement for smart glasses such as Google Glass, which was removed from sale in early 2015 after reports of poor image quality. Google has since been quietly working on a redesign, including versions without a screen.
