On the eHomeAffairs site you can submit applications online, upload supporting documents, make online payments, and schedule a booking to visit a Department of Home Affairs-enabled bank branch.

According to Home Affairs, a branch visit is still mandatory for the capture and verification of your biometric detail, such as photos, fingerprints and signature.

This E-Home Affairs system was launched in 2016 and because it lets South Africans apply and pay for their card or a passport online, it is a significant timesaver.
