According to the latest edition of Symantec’s Internet Security Threat Report, globally, more than 4,800 unique websites on an average are compromised with formjacking code every month.
Symantec explains formjacking as akin to virtual ATM skimming – where cybercriminals inject malicious code into retailers’ websites to steal shoppers’ payment card details.
According to the report, estimates are that cybercriminals may have collected tens of millions of dollars in 2018 via this method, stealing consumers’ financial and personal information through credit card fraud and sales on the dark web.
