Financial technology, or fintech, companies play in all these areas. So there’s a broad selection of fintech companies to buy and watch.
Mergers and acquisitions, meanwhile, have picked up among fintech companies. Fiserv(FISV) in January entered a deal to acquire First Data (FDC) for $22 billion in stock. Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) in March agreed to buy Worldpay (WP) for $35 billion in cash and stock.
The wave of consolidation has boosted fintech stocks as analysts speculate on who’s next. Global Payments (GPN) figures to be next to engage in a merger, says Lisa Ellis, analyst at MoffettNathanson. A merger between Total System Services (TSS) and Global Payments is the most obvious fit, she says.
U.S. Bancorp (USB) also looms as a buyer of Global Payments.
