Permit applicants will be mailed letters that include a link code that lets them create an online account using a City of Berkeley portal, city officials said.

New permit holders will be able to use their portals to upload documents by Monday, according to the city. In the fall, residents will also be able to purchase one-day and 14-day temporary permits online.

In the future, residents will be able to renew and pay for permits through their online portals.
